The Fund aims to maximise long term total return to investors by investing predominantly in undervalued European equities.
The Fund seeks to maximise total return to investors through investment in European equities of companies whose share prices do not, in the opinion of the investment manager, fully reflect their potential value. The Fund will invest across a wide range of geographies, sectors and market capitalisations. The Fund may also invest in other assets including other transferable securities, collective investment schemes, money market instruments, cash and near cash, deposits and derivative instruments. Derivative instruments may be used in support of achieving the Fund’s investment objective.
The M&G European Strategic Value Fund is a well diversified fund that invests in companies across Europe (including the United Kingdom). The fund manager uses quantitative-driven screening to find ideas within the cheapest 25% of stocks in the European investment universe. He takes the view that overly cheap companies will see their valuations revert to average and that when the market concentrates on negative factors, a company’s share price will suffer unwarranted weakness. With this in mind, the fund manager examines the financial, business and management quality of his short-listed stocks. When a company’s shares no longer appear undervalued compared with those of its peers in the same industry, the fund manager will reconsider the investment rationale for this holding with a view to sell the position. The fund manager works closely with the risk management team to ensure that the primary driver of performance is stock selection.
Richard Halle joined M&G in 1999 as an investment analyst specialising in the insurance sector. Since 2002, he has been a member of the European equities team and in 2008 he was appointed fund manager of the M&G European Strategic Value Fund and M&G Pan European Dividend Fund . Before joining M&G, Richard worked as a security analyst for the Sedgwick Group. Richard graduated from the University of Natal in South Africa with a bachelor of commerce and is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder.
